Education History
Over the years Ulster Orchestra musicians have been involved in some very exciting and creative projects. They have worked with thousands of people from across Northern Ireland and beyond. In March 2007 the Orchestra performed A Marvellous Medicine. This was composed by Brian Irvine. A setting of various poems by Roald Dahl set to music by Brian Irvine with the permission of the Dahl Foundation. Commissioned originally by Live Music Now, A Marvellous Medicine was a huge success in both Larne and Derry in its small-scale format.
Now comes a new version, extended with new songs, rewritten and orchestrated especially for the Ulster Orchestra.
A Marvellous Medicine brought approximately 240 singing, acting, running, talking, laughing, crying, dancing, primary school pupils from Belfast to perform with the Orchestra in what was a genuine partnership of equals. Ignited by Dahl’s fantastically funny characters, this was new contemporary music of the most engaging kind.
