The Pied Piper

On Saturday 14 March the Waterfront Hall was overrun by over hundreds of singing and dancing RATS! Primary schoolchildren from across Belfast formed a 200-strong choir and joined the Ulster Orchestra, a narrator and a dance group of 60 for the performance of The Pied Piper. The performance was the culmination of a major project built around a new musical presentation based on the Robert Browning poem.

Over the past few months P5-P7 children from four schools in North, South, East and West Belfast worked with a team of Ulster Orchestra musicians led by Brian Irvine, the Orchestra's Associate Composer, who wrote the music especially for the event.
Through their hard work in class and during special workshops closer to the event, the massive choir and costumed dancers pulled off an amazing show.

Children attending the event were encouraged to come in The Pied Piper-themed fancy dress and met at Belfast's City Hall for a carnival procession to the Waterfront Hall. The carnival was a great success, with stilt walkers, colourful flag bearers and of course, lots of furry rodents!
