Adopt a Player
Adopt a player from the Ulster Orchestra and gain a unique insight into the working life of a professional musician and the music to be performed at an Ulster Orchestra concert. One of the orchestral players will make 2 – 3 visits to the school to talk about his/her instrument and life as a musician. The children will be encouraged to take part in creative work related to the themes of a forthcoming concert that the school group will attend.

Meet A Player
Meet a player from the Ulster Orchestra and learn about the Orchestra in an informal and entertaining way. An Ulster Orchestra player will visit the classroom to demonstrate his/her instrument and talk about what life is like as a professional orchestral musician.

Ensembles Concerts
These lively concerts, given by groups of musicians from the Ulster Orchestra, include great pieces of classical and contemporary music along with plenty of audience participation. Select any of the Ulster Orchestra’s ensembles to visit your school or community group.

Creative Music Projects
Creative music projects encourage active participation and experimentation in the creation of music and are designed to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum. One or more workshop sessions may also culminate in a final performance for school, friends and family. The workshops explore pitch, rhythm, texture, timbre and form, and can be adapted to suit all levels from primary to post-primary. All Creative Music Projects start from £80 plus travel outside Belfast. The price will increase depending on the chosen programme and the number of players involved.

Big Bad Bass
Big Bad Bass, the orchestra's double bass trio, has a nautical flavour this year, so come and meet our fishy friends, take to the high seas and hear the mystery instrument. Helen Glynn, Michele Strong & Ricky Matson present an hour of music fun for little ‘land lubbers'.

Birds & Beasts
Phoenix Flute and Harp Duo present Birds & Beasts, a lively interactive programme for Primary and Nursery Schools. Libby Bennett and Audrey Douglas have devised two exciting and stimulating programmes in which pupils are involved in performing, creating and listening to music. NB: All instruments are provided and a song is sent to schools before the concert. Ideas for creative work following the performance are suggested in notes for teachers.
Nursery/KS1: 45-minute programme includes a musical
story about Nellie the elephant's journey back to the jungle.
KS2: In this one hour programme, pupils create ‘sound
pictures' to illustrate an ancient Irish story.

Cartoon Capers
Following on from their successful workshops, Paul Young and Patrick McCarthy, principal trumpets of the Ulster Orchestra, take you on an interactive journey as they introduce Bugs Bunny, The Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry and many other cartoon favourites.

Join Mark Robinson & Paul Klein - percussion & french horn - on a trip to the movies with this new and exciting workshop that explores the music of some of the silver screen's biggest blockbusters such as Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings! Pupils will create special effects using percussion instruments in this fun, interactive workshop.

Mr Marvellous!
The fun starts from the very first second as Mr Marvellous, Marty Wilson - trombone - with help from fellow superheroes Spiderman, Indiana Jones and many others explain, interactively, how music is composed for your favourite films and TV shows. Don't miss this entertaining, performance!

Music, Moods & Movies
Paul Young & Patrick McCarthy - trumpets - journey through sound and imagination. This workshop explores what we hear and how it makes us feel. How does music conjure up that tingle in the spine at the start of the Harry Potter films or even put us in the mood for half an hour of The Simpsons?
Pupils will have an opportunity to work on an imaginary film score as they investigate a range of musical styles and discover how to create pictures through sound.

Outback Adventure
Mark Robinson & Paul Klein - percussion & french horn - take you on an adventure Down Under where they will explore the creepy crawlies and furry friends that inhabit the Australian outback. This interactive workshop includes aboriginal story-telling for which pupils provide the soundtrack using simple percussion instruments.

What does it sound like? When have I heard it before? How does it work?
With the use of some modern technology, Nigel Ireland & Gareth Hopkins – violin & double bass – perform popular tunes, TV themes and pop songs introducing and demonstrating members of the string family – violin, viola, cello, double bass, mandolin & guitar.

Ulster Brass Plus
Your school’s band, orchestra and/or choir experience an interactive workshop and are given the opportunity to rehearse and perform specially written music with members of the quintet at a recital for parents and the whole school.
